Tips for Getting Kids Ready for School by Setting Their Sleep Schedules Now
Summer seems endless, especially when you’re a kid. The days are long, the water fights are fun, and the hot dogs are plentiful. It may be hard to think about, but school is just around the corner. So what should you be thinking about besides buying new clothes and school supplies? Well, an investment in the best comfortable bed could be just the thing your kid needs to have a great school year. We’ve covered in previous Nectar blogs that it’s so important for kids to get the right amount of sleep. Sometimes that means up to ten hours in the best comfortable bed! So how do you get a kid who just wants to stay up for summer vacation to actually get in bed and stay there? We’ve come up with some tips to help you and your loved ones start the routine early so that it doesn’t feel like such a chore when September finally rolls around.
If you start your routine now, and push it gradually not only will kids emotionally respond better, but their bodies will too. Try starting their bedtime just fifteen minutes early this week, then another fifteen the next, then another fifteen before school starts. The gradual change will get their bodies adjusted, and hopefully they won’t even notice that it’s starting. This will definitely reduce the shock of those early morning wakeups the first few weeks of school. You’ll be dealing with less crabby kids, and you won’t have to work so hard to get them out of the best comfortable bed on the market, a Nectar.
A Relaxing Routine
While it could be fun to have a late night movie or staying up to watch the fireworks once in awhile, it’s important to establish good routines so that they’re ready for time in the best comfortable bed. Use bathtime as a soothing transitional period, then follow it with reading aloud from your kid’s favorite book. Not only is this a soothing experience (and good for them!) it reduces the harmful effects of artificial light that is produced by tablets and computer screens.
Healthy Food, Plenty of Exercise
Kids have even more energy than adults, and can sometimes feel restless before bed. That’s why it’s super important to make sure that they have ample time to play and roam during the day so that this restlessness doesn’t carry over into sleep time. Even the best comfortable bed from Nectar can’t compete with restless leg syndrome. Encourage kids to play outside instead of letting them play video games. Limit juice and sugary drinks and make sure to provide plenty of healthy foods for them to eat. It seems like a no-brainer, but this can really help when bedtime rolls around. So there you have it. Nectar wants to partner with you and your kids to have the best school year ever. Remember, a well rested kid is a smart kid! Get out there and catch some Z’s!
