Start with the orange pillowcase.  We recommend using a queen size pillowcase for kids and king size pillowcase for adults.

At the open end of the pillowcase cut (2) 2″ slits on the side seam.  This is where you will tread the ribbon.  This will end up being the neck of the costume.

To make the armholes, measure five inches from the neckline.  Then cut across 4 inches to make a large armhole opening.

For guys, this is generally at waistline to around your knees.

For guys, this is generally at the neckline to around your calves.

At this point, you should plan what you’re going to wear under the Toga.  Shorts, t-shirt, tights to … nothing!  But, be mindful that Toga’s aren’t the most reliable for staying on and in place so we recommend wearing something beneath that you will be comfortable in.

Leaving a foot or two of extra material on the left side of your body wrap the folded sheet around your entire waste or torso once.

Then bring it around your back and over your shoulder on the next pass.

Next, grab a coat hanger, some leaves, and tape to create an authentic headdress.

Tie a piece of string to a pen that is slightly longer than the folded edge of your sheet.

DIY Ghost Costume Out Of A Bed Sheet Step 4

Hold your string in the corner and mark the widest arc that you can with the pen.

DIY Ghost Costume Out Of A Bed Sheet Step 5

Cut the fabric along your pen marked line.

DIY Ghost Costume Out Of A Bed Sheet Step 6

Measure your head and add five centimeters.  Take this measurement and divide it by 4 (remember the bedsheet is folded so this is why we divide by four).

Example – let’s say your head measured 19 cm.  Add 5 cm.  The total is now 24 cm.  Now divide this by 4.  The measurement we need from this example would be 6 cm.

DIY Ghost Costume Out Of A Bed Sheet Step 7

Now, from the corner of the folded sheet mark another arch the length we determined in step 6 with the pen.

DIY Ghost Costume Out Of A Bed Sheet Step 8

Cut the fabric along your pen marked line.

DIY Ghost Costume Out Of A Bed Sheet Step 9

To make the hood, take the double layered piece we just cut in step 8.  Take the head measurement + 5 cm.

DIY Ghost Costume Out Of A Bed Sheet

DIY Ghost Costume Out Of A Bed Sheet Step 10

Take the head measurement + 5 cm and divide that by 2.  Then, add 1 cm.

Example – let’s say your head measured 19 cm.  Add 5 cm.  The total is now 24 cm.  Now divide this by 2.  The measurement we need from this example would be 12 cm.  Then add 1 cm = 13 cm as the final measurement.

DIY Ghost Costume Out Of A Bed Sheet

DIY Ghost Costume Out Of A Bed Sheet Step 11

With your final measurement from step 10 make a square with the length and width equal as your final measurement.

Example – 13 cm long by 13 cm wide.

DIY Ghost Costume Out Of A Bed Sheet

DIY Ghost Costume Out Of A Bed Sheet Step 12

Pin the two pieces together and cut out the square you measured in step 11.

DIY Ghost Costume Out Of A Bed Sheet

DIY Ghost Costume Out Of A Bed Sheet Step 13

Cut a curve on one edge for the back of the hood.

DIY Ghost Costume Out Of A Bed Sheet

DIY Ghost Costume Out Of A Bed Sheet Step 14

Now we’re ready to sew the hood together. Start by flipping the two hood pieces inside out so when we sew along the edge the seams will be on the inside.  Pro Tip – pin the hood to make sewing a breeze.

DIY Ghost Costume Out Of A Bed Sheet

DIY Ghost Costume Out Of A Bed Sheet Step 15

Sew along the edge with a 1 cm spacing from the edge to your new sewing line.

DIY Ghost Costume Out Of A Bed Sheet

DIY Ghost Costume Out Of A Bed Sheet Step 16

Now its time to connect the hood inside the neck area of the bedsheet.  Use a pin to mark the center back and the center front.

DIY Ghost Costume Out Of A Bed Sheet

DIY Ghost Costume Out Of A Bed Sheet Step 17

Now align the hood with the neck area.  Make sure the seams are all properly aligned on the inside of both pieces.

DIY Ghost Costume Out Of A Bed Sheet

DIY Ghost Costume Out Of A Bed Sheet Step 18

Pin the hood to the inside of the neck area.  We recommend pinning a quarter at a time to help make it easier to manage.  The more pins evenly distributed the easier the next step will be.

DIY Ghost Costume Out Of A Bed Sheet

DIY Ghost Costume Out Of A Bed Sheet Step 19

Sew along the edge with a 1 cm spacing.

DIY Ghost Costume Out Of A Bed Sheet

DIY Ghost Costume Out Of A Bed Sheet Step 20

Using the black felt fabric cut out two eyes and using fabric glue place these eyes on the front side of the ghost costume.

DIY Ghost Costume Out Of A Bed Sheet

DIY Ghost Costume Out Of A Bed Sheet Step 21

Using the black felt fabric cut out a mouth.  We recommend a zig-zag style mouth to add character to your ghost!

Last, cut some 1.5-inch slits into the bottom of the costume to add a fringe that mimics the ghost’s flying ability.
