A new study, casually entitled, “Shortened sleep fuels inflammatory responses to marital conflict: Emotion regulation matters.” (Yeah, we think it’s a mouthful too) studied forty three different couples, asking them to self-report fights, monitor their hormone levels, and log their sleep schedules. So does a good foam mattress really make a difference? The studies showed that couples who both slept less actually had higher levels of interleukin-6 after spousal fights. This basically means that anger hormones were noticeably higher in couples suffering from lack of sleep. Fights for those couples lasted longer, were typically more violent, and had greater repercussions than similar couples who got the prescribed number of hours of sleep a night.
