4 Bedtime Drinks That Help You Sleep Better
We are officially in the dog days of summer. Sometimes we can be kept up late – even on a comfortable bed like a Nectar – by muggy, hot nights. Tossing and turning, it can feel like you might never get the sleep you need (and as we’ve covered in previous Nectar blogs, sleep can also affect your workflow). So what do you do when you’re hot, bothered, and can’t find the cool spot on your pillow? Have a drink. We aren’t talking alcohol. In fact, a new study suggests that while alcohol can make you sleepy initially, many times it will wake you up in the middle of the night as the effects begin to wear off. So instead of reaching for a fruity mixed drink, a beer, or something else that will leave you hanging, we’ve come up with some great drinks that will help you drift off to sleep. Try them on the porch watching the stars, at the dinner table, or even better — bedside, as you’re tucked in a comfortable bed.
This tart drink is great for summer sleep. It’s cool, refreshing basenotes mask some great antioxidants that will help you snooze before you know it. There are layers to how cherry juice works through your system as you sleep, promoting enzyme production and replenishing vitamins. Think of it like Nectar’s tencel cooling cover, a super comfy topper to a great sleep delivery system.
Mom’s classic. It turns out a glass of milk really does help you sleep (whether you want it hot or cold is a matter of personal taste.) The sleep restorative properties come from the amino acid L-tryptophan, which helps produce melatonin right before bed. This could be a little heavy in the summer, but a great option as we get into the cooler months. Oh, and obviously stay away if you’re lactose intolerant.
We all know that chamomile has been the preferred sleep remedy of Brits for a couple hundred years, but passionfruit also shares the same qualities as its northern brother. Try it with a little honey and prepare for the best sleep of your life. Again, cold or hot doesn’t matter, but for a nice summer drink try steeping for six hours during the day and then splashing it over some ice. You’ll be asleep as fast as your body lies down on a comfortable bed. The most comfortable bed? Definitely Nectar, which uses four different kinds of foam to give you the best sleep experience possible.
This one comes with a catch. If you drink it right up until bed time, you could be working your kidneys even after you fall asleep. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it could wake you up in the middle of the night to use the restroom. Water is great for keeping you hydrated (obviously). Another obvious fact? Nectar mattresses make the foundation for a comfortable bed without ever forcing you to break the bank. So try these quick drink remedies and let us know what works for you. We here at Nectar are as committed to having a great summer as we are to giving you a comfortable bed at a great price point. See you in dreams!
